Otuasega Cottage Hospital, Kolocreek, Bayelsa State, Nigeria

In mid January 2013 the latest project to supply a Community with safe drinking water commenced, this invloved a Cottage Hospital and its local community.

The hospital was built by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) in 1998 and donated to the community. Water supply has been from the borehole drilled within the hospital complex. Due its high iron content, the water was not fit for human consumption and also resulted in the piping system being clogged up with rust.

Our Nigerian distributor BGV Limited was contracted to provide a sustainable solution to the water problem of the hospital. After a period of brainstorming with SPDC and its local contractor, the existing system was refurbish and a MECKOW Aquapur unit incorporated to purify the raw water.

A solar powered submersible pump was also installed to ensure availability of water at all times. Water from the borehole is pumped into header tank. From the header tank, it descends via gravity into the MECKOW Aquapur water purification unit. The purified water thereafter flows into a 3000litres storage tank and is either collected from the taps by the residents or fed through a network of pipes which distributes water across the cottage hospital. People from the community also benefit from the project as they also have access to safe drinking water.
