Visit to the Noel Orphanage, Gisenyi, Rwanda

9th November 2009

Andrew Kluckow of Meckow International Ltd travelled to Gisenyi, Rwanda on the 9th October 2009 to visit the Noel Orphanage which is supported by the Point Foundation in the United Kingdom. The orphanage is home to approximately 600 children whose ages range from newborn to twenty three years old. The day to day care of these children is provided by a team of local staff.

Andrew was requested by the Chairman of the Point Foundation to visit the orphanage with a view to supplying safe drinking water through the installation of the MECKOW Aquapur Water Purification Unit.

The current source of water for the children and staff is supplied by the local water authority but is proving a massive expense.

In close proximity to the orphanage is a stream, which will serve as the water source.

The water would then be pumped into a header tank and then fed by gravity to the MECKOW Aquapur unit for purification. From here it will be piped into the kitchen and food preparation area.

The installation of an Aquapur unit would be greatly beneficial to the orphanage providing a constant supply of clean drinking water. Contaminated water is responsible for harbouring life threatening diseases such as Dysentery, Cholera, Typhoid and e-coli, salmonella and cryptosporidium as well as parasitic worms such as Guinea worm, Hook worm and Bilharzia. The MECKOW Aquapur unit will remove all of these and subsequently water related diseases will be eradicated and the health of the children will be greatly improved.
