School for the Blind, Malingunde,Malawi

10th May 2010

Meckow International made a visit to Malingunde School for the Blind during a recent trip to Malawi.

Before the installation of the MECKOW Aquapur Unit the blind children had to make daily trips to the dam to fetch water for the dormitories of the school.

The water they collected was contaminated with E-coli and other deadly bacteria that cause diseases such as cholera, typhoid and diarrhoea, as well as harmful parasites and worms. The teacher from the school told us that there were often long queues at the clinic in the village, with people complaining of diarrhoea and waterborne illnesses.

Meckow international installed the MECKOW Aquapur Unit within the village and now provides a source of safe drinking water for the school and the community.
