MECKOW Aquapur Case Study

MECKOW Aquapur Offers the local communities an important opportunity to be involved with projects that affect their way of life and environment.

By installing a MECKOW Aquapur unit within close proximity of the community, major health benefits are achieved, as well as the reduction in time necessary for water collection.

Angola

After Angola emerged from 30 years of civil war, to ease the urban population burden the government has embarked on a project to entice the previously rural population back to their traditional rural areas.

They aim to achieve this by boosting investment within the agricultural sector.

One major problem was the need for safe and clean drinking water.

MECKOW Aquapur is the ideal solution.

Raw water is pumped from the Kwanza river over a distance of 20 kilometres to an existing reservoir. The raw water from the untreated reservoir is distributed under gravity via pipelines to the local communities.

Members of the community come to their local collection point to gather their daily water requirements, the water is still dirty and contaminated following its journey. Using an existing standpipe in a community situated 6 kilometres from the reservoir, a feed was taken for the MECKOW Aquapur.

A steel tower was erected to house the MECKOW Aquapur along with a water storage tank. The storage tank was installed to cater for peak periods.

The local community now has a source of clean drinking water. They participated in the project with erection and installation and are now responsible for the smooth operation of the unit and are suitably proud of their achievements.
