MECKOW Aquapur Background

The MECKOW Aquapur was created after Research Scientist, Dr. Leighton James visited India, he realised throughout his travels that there was an urgent need for safe clean drinking water. He was shocked at the problems that water borne diseases cause and the poor quality of water that people in the developing world are forced to drink. Safe clean drinking water is a "Basic necessity of life".

When he returned to the United Kingdom he embarked on the project to develop the MECKOW Aquapur, it took him nearly fifteen years to achieve his dream. His motivation was primarily for humanitarian considerations. To develop the Aquapur system he set himself three parameters, these were that:

• The unit must be cheap to run and easy to operate
• The unit must have longevity
• The unit must operate without the need for electricity

The MECKOW Aquapur is a unique water purification unit which is capable of preventing and removing diseases, bacteria and parasites, as well as arsenic and heavy metals. It will produce 1000 litres per hour of safe clean drinking water from virtually any non-saline water source, rivers, lakes, wells and boreholes. The unit has substantial benefits in peri-urban, slum and rural communities. Designed with the ease of transportation and installation in mind, the unit is ideally suited for emergency and disaster situations where safe clean drinking water is rapidly needed.
